2017 Ohio Rural Heritage Festival

Preparations are underway in the Village of Ripley for its 2017 Ohio Rural Heritage Festival scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 through Saturday, August 26 with all the favorites coming back for the celebration.
Members of the Ohio Rural Heritage Committee, including member Rhonda Pendland has been working daily getting ready for the big event which will be bigger and better than last years festival.
“We are especially excited this year to have well known country singer Jesse Keith Whitley as our featured performer for Saturday night,” Pendland said. “Anyone who has heard this guy sing knows that he is a great entertainer and everyone will enjoy his act.
“Also new this year, we’ll be have even more bouncy houses for the kids and we’ve added laser tag this year.”
Pendland said that VIP bracelets for the Jesse Keith Whitley show are available for $10 from either Citizens Deposit Bank & Trust, 104 Main Street or at Ripley Builders, 116 Main Street in Ripley.
“Another great event we are glad to see this year is the Pre-Teen Princess Pageant,” Pendland said. “It is a special pageant for young girls 10 to 12 years old. Registration for the competition will be August 20 with a $20 entry fee. We anticipate a lot of participants for the pageant.”
On Thursday, August 24 when the festival officially kicks off, it will open at 9 a.m. until noon, vendors can set up and registrations will begin.
At 6 p.m. the Queen Pageant will be held on the main stage, followed at 8 p.m. untill 11 p.m. Spear Point Band will take the stage. Event will close at 11 a.m. on Thursday and reopen beginning  at 7 until 8 for the 5K registration.
Saturday’s events include, check-in for the car and truck show with trophies and awards given out at 3:30 p. Also Saturday is the Baby Show, the Garden Tour, Little Miss and Little Mister Pageant, pedal tractor pull, quilt show and photo exhibit and a petting zoo.
Saturday is also the day for the taco eating contest and the horse shoe tournament.
Entertainment for Saturday will also include Kalysta Minton, AFT Gospel Choir, The Pedigos Live, Hot Rod & Fast Lane, Smokey Road Band, and of cours Jesse Keith Whitley on the main stage.
Friday night will also have some great entertainment including Steve Free and Take a Chance Band.
“Be sure and see the big Duck Race on Saturday at 5 p.m.,” Pendland added, “It is such a fun event and everyone enjoys it. It’s held at the Ripley Boat Club.
“We’d like to invite everyone out for this terrific festival. It grows bigger every year and we’re excited about this years event.”
