Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine to share! That’s exactly what the Lake Waynoka Art Club did for several weeks this summer when they painted a 9 x 43 foot mural on the outside of the bath house at the lake. The mission of the Art Club is, “to promote Art through group participation, to stimulate artistic interest in the community and promote Art education.” Besides the mural, the Art Club, which started in May 2014, also hosts Uncorked on Canvas twice a year. The next Uncorked event will be Saturday, November 17th. For a small fee, anyone who makes a reservation, can come to the Lodge and paint a picture with the help of Art Club members. Other activities sponsored by the Art Club include rock painting for kids at Waynoka Day, sand art at Beach Day and this October they will host a Chalkfest in the Lodge/Rec Center/Lounge parking lot for budding chalk artists of all ages! Joanne Edwards, president of the club, said she wants “to thank the entire community for their support in completing this project. The entire club helped with the design and ideas came from every member. The project would not have gone as smoothly without the help of the Lake Waynoka Maintenance Team and the renovation of the bath house, the Shawnee Woman’s Club for the monetary donation to help with the paint, and Terry Borgman, project manager, who kept us organized.” The idea to paint a mural came when the club found out the maintenance crew was going to update and paint the bathhouse this summer. There was a mural in the women’s washroom, painted years ago by Christy Rockey ,that would ultimately be whitewashed over due to old age. Joanne continued by saying, “ Nobody in the Art Club had worked on an outside mural before, so we didn’t know how many stages there would be before the project was completed.” Working on the mural committee were: Joanne Edwards, President; Eileen Brown, Vice-President; Sandy Beard, Secretary; Kathy Farrell, Artist and member, and Terry Borgman, Project Manager. Additional Painters included: Alinde Moore, Cindy Walsh, Maureen Patton, Katie Bell, Steve Johnson, Elaine Bolte, , Joanne Coker, Sharon Couch and Vicki Nimmo. Helping with the project in other areas included :Joe Bolte, Dave Patton, Roger Coker, Carol LaPlante and Prescilla Redick. The Lake Waynoka Art Club welcomes new guests and you don’t have to live at the lake to be a member. Everyone is welcome! Meetings are from September to May, once a month on the Monday that follows the 2nd Saturday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Lodge. Contact Joanne Edwards at 937-446-1917.
