Local Damsel in Defense program helps empower women

The Damsel in Defense Program began in 2011 and has continued to grow in popularity with women, according to Damsel in Defense independent Damsel Pro, Becky Bellamy of Sardinia.
Recently Bellamy set up a booth at the Mt. Orab Women’s Craft Show in the park, and talked to women attending the event about their personal safety.
“One in five women will be sexually assaulted sometime in their lives,” Bellamy said in an interview. “There is an aggravated assault in this country every 35 seconds and a sexual assault takes place somewhere in the United States every two minutes.
“The mission of Damsel in Defense is to ‘equip,’ ‘empower’ and ‘educate’ women everywhere and teach them how to defend themselves.”
Bellamy talked briefly about the environment of today and just how dangerous it can be for women, young and old, who are searching for ways to protect themselves.
“Through Damsel in Defense, women learn how to always be aware of their surroundings at all times,” Bellamy said. “We also offer tools for all women such as pepper sprays, stun guns and other security on the go products, conceal/carry information and digital defense”
Since the inception of the Damsel in Defense program statistics are changing because women no longer have to feel helpless and vulnerable to possible assault.
