Dennis Keith Chaney, 70, of Georgetown, was sentenced to prison time for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material in the Brown County Court of Common Pleas on Nov. 30.
Chaney entered a plea of guilty on two counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material on Nov. 30, and on that same date he was sentenced by Brown County Common Pleas Judge Scott T. Gusweiler to an indefinite prison term of a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and to two years in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction on the other count, to be served consecutively to the other sentence imposed. Chaney is classified as a Tier II Sex Offender and was notified that post release control is mandatory for five years.
It was on April 21 when Chaney was indicted on 10 counts that included charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material (five counts) and pandering obscenity involving a minor (five counts).
With Chaney’s guilty plea on two counts of the indictment, the remaining counts appearing on the April 21 indictment were ordered dismissed.
It was on Dec. 19, 2022 when deputies from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a tip advising that Chaney had transferred images and videos consistent with possible child pornography. After several months of investigating, deputies developed enough probable cause to take the case to grand jury.
On April 24 of this year, Chaney was arrested on the indictment.
Chaney had previously been a Special Deputy with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office from September 2011 through December 2013, and he most recently resigned from the Ohio Lottery Commission.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Brown County Drug Task Force, and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for their assistance in the investigation.
