The Western Brown Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.
Board members Scott Moore, Jennifer Patrick and Lynette Garrett were sworn in as board members and the group settled into their seats for the meeting.
Superintendent Raegan White began the meeting by reading a proclamation recognizing January as School Board Recognition Month. He said the recognition was to build awareness and understanding of the vital function as elected board of education plays in society.
“These board members all do what they do in order to provide our students the best possible education,” White said. “Board members set policies and procedures and they focus on progress toward the school district’s goals.
“Our members here at Western Brown voluntarily accept sometimes difficult responsibilities, and I would like to thank them for their sometimes, thankless jobs that they do willingly.”
Also during the meeting the board held a swearing-in ceremony for new and returning board members Lynette Garrett (returning) and new members Jennifer Patrick and Scott Moore. All were welcomed by the rest of the board.
Superintendent White reported that during the board’s re-organization meeting Joann Hildebrandt was appointed board president for calendar year 2018, Richey Pride was appointed vice president and Jennifer Patrick was appointed as legislative liaison for 2018.
The board also set the regular monthly board meeting for the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. with the exception of the February meeting which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20 due to Presidents Day conflicts.
Also during the re-organization meeting the board approved a resolution authorizing the treasurer to request tax advances, invest inactive funds and pay bills within the limits of appropriations and open bids.
The board approved a resolution authorizing the superintendent to employ temporary personnel as needed and the superintendent was appointed as purchasing agent.
A resolution was approved authorizing board members to participate in employee fringe benefit plan by applying for and paying applicable premiums.
The board also approved a resolution to approve the alternate tax budget for fiscal year 2019.
Dustin Dean was approved for employment as the Mt. Orab Middle School track coach for the boys and Ashley Green was employed as substitute Data clerk.
A field trip for the high school FFA was approved to participate in livestock judging to be held at Ohio State University Wooster campus on Feb. 23 and 24, and a technology agreement with Hamilton Clermont Cooperative for contracted services was also approved.
