Peace Officers Association buys holiday meals for Shop-With-A-Cop families

When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and that’s just what happened in Brown County last week when the Brown County Peace Officers Association stepped up and purchased Christmas meals for the families involved in the Shop-With-a-Cop program.
Since it first began in the county, the Shop–With–a Cop program has been a huge success and has continued each year to grow in the number of families that have been helped through the annual event.
This year the Peace Officers Association also picked up the tab and paid for the 46 meals for the families of the children involved in the program. The boxes included a turkey, or a ham and all the fixings like potatoes, gravy, dressing, etc.
The Brown County Peace Officers Association, which has been in operation for more than 30 years works hard all year promoting a good working relationship between all law enforcement agencies in the county.
The association has always been a huge supporter of the Shop-With-A-Cop program since it first started in the county several years ago. Each year the association holds a huge hog roast in September at the Ohio Valley Antique Machinery Show Grounds, with all proceeds going to Shop-With-A-Cop.
The Brown County Peace Officers Association is a 100% tax deductible organization registered with the IRS and the Secretary of State of Ohio. The agency is able to do many things for residents of the county which also includes providing scholarships to students and operates a Christmas Toy Program in the county.
“The association also provides continuous training programs for officers in the county,” Hodges said. “There are a lot of small departments in Brown County and it’s hard for them to come up with the funds to pay for this training, and we do it for them free. We generally offer two or three training sessions a year, but we plan on doubling that this year.”
