A man was convicted of Rape, Gross Sexual Imposition and Abduction on Nov. 1 after a two day trial in Brown County Common Pleas Court.
Newman Powih. will be sentenced Nov. 15.
“The jury deliberated for about five hours and returned a guilty verdict on all counts,” said Brown County First Assistant Prosecutor Zac Corbin.
Powih was on his first day on the job at the Locust Ridge Nursing Home in Williamsburg when the assault took place.
“He essentially cornered another employee in a resident room, shut the door, confined her and sexually assaulted her,” said Corbin.
“She was able to get away and reported the incident to a co-worker and her co-workers got her to a safe location and called the authorities.”
Corbin said that Powih still faces similar charges in Warren County.
“He’s charged of Gross Sexual Imposition up in Warren County for an event that took place in Loveland just ten days before our incident here,” Corbin said.
“So this guy twice in ten days assaulted a co-worker here and allegedly assaulted another person at his prior job.”
Corbin praised the staff at Locust Ridge and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office for their quick and professional responses to the incident.
Powih remains in the Brown County Jail pending his sentencing.
