A woman was killed in a house fire in Lake Lorelei overnight on December 20,
The body of 70 year old Cathy Stockman was found in the house after the flames were extinguished.
Fayetteville Fire Chief Mark Rosselot said that nearby residents who called in the fire also reported hearing explosions when the calls came in around 2:30 a.m.
“The explosions were from oxygen bottles that were outside. Whatever started the fire extended to the oxygen bottles and they exploded,” Rosselot said.
The siding of the house next door to the residence at 562 Lorelei Drive also had some damage.
“We had some (fire) exposures to the next house, we were able to get it contained,” Rosselot said.
Melted siding and other fire damage on the home next door was visible from the street as firefighters were wrapping up the scene on Wednesday morning.
Rosselot said that it appeared that the fire caused the explosions of the oxygen tanks and that the fire did not begin with an explosion.
In addition to the Fayetteville Fire Department, units from the Mt Orab Fire Department also responded as did the Wayne, Jackson and Stonelick Fire Departments from Clermont County. Members of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
The Brown County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of death and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire itself.
