The Southern Highland Joint Fire District has distributed smoke detectors to area students thanks to its annual fundraiser. Students were provided with one detector for each floor per family. This effort comes after in-school fire prevention demonstrations and surveys revealed a need to provide free detectors to area families. Surveys were sent to White Oak High School, Bright Elementary and Mowrystown Church of Christ. After the initial distribution earlier this month, there were enough to continue to supply district residents in need of an up-to-date smoke detector. The Fire District asks that those in need fill out a survey before receiving a free detector; this allows them to track against their goal of a working detector in every home. The Survey will be posted on the SHJFD Facebook and more information concerning the smoke detector project.
