At the 32nd Annual Ohio Educational Service Center (ESC) Capital Conference Awards Ceremony, Brown County Prosecuting Attorney was awarded the Outstanding Community Leadership Award. The outstanding community leadership award recognizes individuals who have rendered services that have significantly benefited the school districts in their county or region.
Zac Corbin, Brown County Prosecuting Attorney, has contributed to the educational efforts in all Brown County schools. Mr. Corbin works diligently to combat the opioid epidemic that is sweeping through Ohio and across our nation. In his efforts, as the prosecutor, Zac has recognized the littlest victims; young children of those addicted, convicted and placed in the court system. Prosecutor Corbin has worked with the Brown County ESC to identify preschool aged children who are removed from their parents’ home and placed in either foster or kinship care. The Prosecutor’s Office works to refer these children to the Brown County ESC Pre-K supervisor to make arrangements for enrollment in the Brown County preschool program. Through these efforts, this collaboration is seeking to give these children an early start in their education, a stable environment through the day, and a caring atmosphere to be engaged with other children and positive role models. As part of this effort, we are working together to meet the social emotional needs by providing lessons for them to understand their emotions and the correct responses to those emotions. Mr. Corbin has worked with the Brown County Courts, the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, the Brown County Village Police Officers, Brown County Children’s Service Agency and his staff at the Brown County Prosecutor’s Office to coordinate the referral efforts. The opioid epidemic is running rapid through southwest Ohio. Community involvement is a key component of combatting this problem. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Prosecutor Corbin has taken the step as a community leader looking out for the best interest of the future by standing up for the littlest victims in Brown County. It is for these reasons that Brown County Prosecutor Zachary Corbin was awarded the OESCA Outstanding Leadership Award.
