Fayetteville Middle School was searched by law enforcement officers on May 16 after a false report of a man with a gun hiding inside the school.
According to a press release from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Kenneth Rummel Jr. was arrested around 11:45 a.m. after firing a 9mm handgun at a residence on Russell Street near the school.
Shortly after noon, a student at Fayetteville Middle School sent a text that there was a shooter hiding in the school. Law enforcement officers came to the school, met with school officials and determined that the text was inaccurate.
Participating agencies included the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Brown County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force, Fayetteville Police Department, Mt. Orab Police Department and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Rummel is facing charges that include Aggravated Burglary, Theft of a Firearm, Discharge of a Firearm in a School Safety Zone and Possession of a Firearm Under Disability.
All are felony charges.
