It is with profound respect and affection that we honor the life of John Larance Whittley, 65, of Carlisle, Ky, who graced this world from October 16, 1959, to October 10, 2025. A cherished soul, born in Houston, Texas, John was a man of robust passion and levity, whose bright spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
John devoted forty-two wonderful years to his beloved wife, Nancy Stevenson Whittley. Together, they forged a family, built on love and laughter, with their children Rebecca, David and his wife Shannon, Catherine and her fiancé Dustin Nash, and Stewart and his wife Amanda. He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren: Mayce and Maseo Allen, Ember, Skylar, Dakoda, Clayton, Kora, Hazel, Nolan, and Nash Whittley, each of whom basked in the joy and wisdom he shared.
His siblings, Edwin T. Whittley Jr with his spouse Mattie, Diane Porter with her spouse Jack, Jackie Orsack with his spouse Betty, Vernon Orsack, Martha Whittley, and Ray Orsack with his spouse Bobbie, remember John as a beacon of strength and camaraderie. He now rejoins his late parents, Edwin T. Whittley and Annie Belle Flowers Orsack, and his departed siblings Freddie Orsack, and Nancy Orsack, in peaceful rest.
John’s professional life was marked by hard work and excellence. He earned distinction as a Welder-Fabricator, Inspector, Machinist, and finally as a forward-thinking Business Owner. With remarkable skill, he was also a self-taught computer builder, showcasing his unfading curiosity and ability to master new challenges.
An active member of the NRA, John found camaraderie and fulfillment amongst likeminded individuals who shared his values and interests. His passion for life was matched only by his handiness and his wonderful sense of humor which consistently brought joy and respite to his family and friends.
John Whittley’s legacy is carried forward not just in the successful career and the associations he enriched, but in the lives of those he touched with his generosity of spirit and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones. A man imbued with an infectious zest for life, his memories are treasures that will continue to inspire and comfort all those fortunate to have been part of his journey.
As we bid farewell to John Larance Whittley, we reflect on a life truly well-lived, and a man deeply loved. His was a life that exemplified passion, dedication, and humor, and though he has departed from our presence, his extraordinary spirit will remain forever an integral part of our story.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11am on October 20, 2025, at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home Chapel, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY. Burial to follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 5pm till 8pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Whittley, Stewart Whittley, Reno Runck IV, Vince Sbanotto, Dustin Nash and Michael Knab. Honorary pallbearers will be Maseo Allen and Clayton Whittley.
