The Western Brown FFA traveled to Cincinnati on Jan. 11 to volunteer at The Ronald McDonald House. This charity first opened their doors in October, 1974 in Philadelphia and was soon expanded into Cincinnati by 1978. The desire for the program was to support the unique needs of families with critically ill children. The first portion of the house started with 21 rooms and has since become a 177 room facility.
The house now also features dining rooms and activity spaces for families. This past Thursday, 9 Western Brown FFA members volunteered to prepare and serve a Taste of Hope meal with the assistance of a Living to Serve Grant provided by National FFA. Being guided by the house chef’s, members were able to participate in all aspects of the production of the meal and cleanup afterward. Junior member Jacie Conners had this to say about the experience: “Getting involved in community service like this was inspiring and fulfilling. I enjoyed the direct impact that could be in a few short hours of hard work.”. The chapter would like to thank National FFA for sponsoring this outing through the Living to Serve Grant program.
