The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association has announced the Bob Arnzen Award winners, with this year’s honorees including Eastern Brown girls basketball head coach Kevin Pickerill.
The Bob Arnzen Award is awarded to those basketball coaches who have devoted 20 consecutive years or more of service to the same school and for their loyalty and commitment to Ohio high school basketball.
According to Eastern Local Schools Superintendent Jordan Michael, Pickerill is entering his 29th season of coaching at Eastern this upcoming basketball season.
Pickerill joins Ohio Basketball Hall of Famer and former girls basketball coach Richard Kiser, as well as current boys basketball coach Rob Beucler, as the third Eastern coach to receive a Bob Arnzen Award.
This year’s honorees also include: Nate Barhorst (Anna), Dennis Brubaker (Patrick Henry), Denny Meyer (Patrick Henry), John Millice (Triad), Todd Rock (Bishop Rosecrans), Rick Rockwell (Madeira) and Doug Smith (Celina).
These coaches will be honored at the 2024 State Tournament in Dayton.
About Bob Arnzen: Arnzen spent 43 years as the head boys basketball coach at Delphos St. John’s High School. At the time of his retirement, he was the second-winningest coach in Ohio high school basketball with 676 wins and only 291 losses. Coach Arnzen was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
