The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Friday, August 9, 2019 at approximately 7:31 A.M. The crash occurred on Crawford-Day Road about one mile north of Bardwell-Buford Road in Brown County.
Heather D. Smith, age 44, of Mt. Orab, Ohio was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze southbound on Crawford-Day Road. The preliminary investigation has revealed that Mrs. Smith drove slightly off the left side of the roadway and then overcorrected losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle eventually travelled off the left side again striking a ditch and a large tree.
Mrs. Smith was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected outside of the vehicle. Mrs. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene by a representative from the Brown County Coroner’s Office.
Mt. Orab Fire and EMS, Mt. Orab Police Department, and Brown County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol- Georgetown Post.
